Heilig Geist (Holy Spirit) Kirche is right behind Alter Peter, in between the Marienplatz and the Viktualienmarkt.
This is going to be a quick one, because I really don’t know much about this church. It has a similar feel to Alter Peter, but smaller…
It was once a Gothic church, but remodeled and given a Baroque facade and pillars and stuff, and lots of rococo ornamentation, some (or all?) of it by the Asam brothers (more on them soon.)
With incense floating in the air…
Beautiful frescoes all over the ceiling. I’m actually not sure who is in this picture. By dress, we have a pope, a bishop, a Franciscan, and a Dominican. Is it Francis and Dominic themselves? It could be…
The high altar.
Right above the high altar, this fresco shows angels gathered around a dove, a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
The ambulatory. You can’t stop looking up in this church.
It’s glorious to walk in right after Mass has been celebrated and all the incense is still thick in the aisles.
